Six WinCo Foods Portland Open Alums who earned their PGA TOUR cards through the 2014 Web.com Tour played their way into their first PGA Championship. Tony Finau, Justin Thomas, and Daniel Berger, along with this year’s first-time PGA TOUR winners Nick Taylor, Alex Cejka, and Fabian Gomez will tee off at Whistling Straits on Thursday. A total of 63 golfers with Web.com Tour roots are in the year’s final major.

WinCo Foods Portland Open Alum Kyle Reifers Just Misses First PGA TOUR Victory

WinCo Foods Portland Open Tour Alum Kyle Reifers continued his excellent rookie season on the PGA TOUR at the Barracuda Championship, narrowly missing out on his first PGA TOUR victory after losing in a playoff to J.J. Henry. Reifers had three back-nine eagles in a 22-point round to match Henry at 47 points at Montreux Golf and Country Club in the PGA Tour's only modified Stableford event. It was the second Top-10 finish this PGA TOUR season for Reifers, who also finished T-8 at the Northern Trust Open in February. Kyle finished T-21 in the 2014 WinCo Foods Portland Open at Pumpkin Ridge and earned his PGA TOUR Card by finishing in 25th position on the 2014 Web.com Tour Regular Season money list.

Web.com Tour Alum J.J. Henry Wins Barracuda Championship

Web.com Tour graduate J.J. Henry eagled the second hole of a sudden-death playoff to overtake Kyle Reifers and capture the Barracuda Championship in Reno, Nev. Web.com Tour Alums have won 11 of the last 14 PGA TOUR events and 25 in all this PGA TOUR season. 65 of the 73 players who made the cut in Reno were former members of the Web.com Tour. It was J.J.’s third PGA TOUR win, and he is now exempt through the 2016-17 PGA TOUR season. The win was the 416th PGA TOUR title by a former Web.com Tour player.

WinCo Foods Portland Open Alum Andres Gonzales Finishes Strong at Barracuda Championship

WinCo Foods Portland Open Alum and Northwest native Andres Gonzales completed his week with 43 points to earn a 4th place finish at the Barracuda Championship. It was his third Top-10 finish this year on the PGA TOUR, after finishing T-10 at the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am and T-3 at the OHL Classic at Mayakoba. Andres played in the 2014 WinCo Foods Portland Open at Pumpkin Ridge and earned his PGA TOUR Card by finishing in 11th position on the 2014 Web.com Tour Regular Season money list.

Martin Piller Wins Web.com Tour’s Digital Ally Open

Texas A&M grad Martin Piller became the first multiple winner on the Web.com Tour this year as he cruised to his second victory in the last four tournaments at the Digital Ally Open. Three weeks ago, the 29-year-old posted a tournament record 28-under-par score of 256 to win Boise Open. On Sunday at Nicklaus Golf Club at LionsGate in Overland Park, Kan. he equaled the tournament record of 26-under-par for his fifth career Web.com Tour victory. He jumped from fifth to second in earnings and now trails No. 1 Patton Kizzire by $83,150. Just three Regular Season tournaments remain, including the season-ending WinCo Foods Portland Open at Pumpkin Ridge, to determine the first 25 of 50 available PGA TOUR cards for 2015-16.
