When you sign up to be a socializer, you agree to take two puppies that are trained in the prison on a two-week alternating rotation. When one puppy is in "Prison School" the other one will be out with you.
When these puppies are in your care, you will incorporate them in all your family's activities and take them to as many places as you can, including your workplace if permissible.
You will need to attend weekly classes where our staff will teach you what the dogs have learned in prison and how to ask that of the dogs. In addition we would like you to drop your dog off on Friday mornings, if possible, at our facility so that the pups can attend swimming lessons, and you will also need to drop off your pup every other Monday at a designated place so that we can transport it to the prison. Conversely, you will also need to pick up your new pup every other Monday evening upon our return. We will sell you the food that our pups eat at our discounted price, as you need it.
Join the JLAD family and have some fun with all the other socializers.
Puppy Raisers take a puppy from 8 weeks until 16 weeks of age. During this time puppies get introduced to lots of new environments, people, items, sounds, other friendly dogs and pets, loud noises, etc. We follow the Puppy Culture method of introducing our pups to the world around them.
If organization is you forte, we would love to hear from you. An administrative assistant updates our client and dog files, scans and files documents into our server, and enters information into our database. It is helpful to have some knowledge of Excel and Microsoft Word.
We regularly need help transporting puppies to and from our organization to the PDX airport as well as other organizations. Some trips are short where others may take a full day or two or three, depending on where the pups are going. Transportation is usually planned ahead of time but occasionally we need to get pups to the vet with short notice.
Fundraising is at the core of JLAD's ability to produce quality service dogs. We have an annual Auction/Dinner with which we need help, but we are also looking for individuals who can raise funds through other means. We are open to new suggestions.
Do you know your way around Facebook and Instagram? We need individuals who enjoy posting regular updates of all of our activities.
IT Development & Support
We are in need of computer savvy individuals who can help us with technological issues from maintaining and updating our website to developing tech presentations.
Grant Research & writing
Research grants available to JLAD from government departments, corporation, foundation or trust and then submit applications to these organizations.
Photography is an art. We would love to get quality photos to use in our social media post, when updating our website, as well as in other media. We also regularly need pictures take of our dogs in action. These pictures then need to be saved in folders for easy identification and use at a later time.
Dog Therapy Providers
We regularly schedule therapy classes where we teach the appropriate ways to visit a variety of venues. Upon graduation from the six-week series of classes, individuals and their designated dog will be matched to the venues best suited for their dog. But, what if you don’t have a dog? We will make one of our dogs available to you so that you can attend the class and then also provide therapy with our dogs after the completion of the classes.
Do you have advertising skills to promote, develop, and foster our organization? We are seeking individuals who can create an awareness of what we, not only in our immediate area but also throughout the Willamette Valley.
First impressions are so important. We need weekly help keeping our facility clean and sanitized. Sweeping, vacuuming, sanitizing the floors and kennels, and laundering dog bedding are just some of the assistance we need.
